The Big Fraud

Michel Aoun does not want a compromise Lebanese President.
But does he want a compromise Prime Minister?
Are the Christians allowed to have their favorite President but the Sunnis can't have their favorite Prime Minister?

Aoun thinks it is OK for the people to elect a top Christian leader. But the top Sunni leader cannot be elected by the people!

Assuming Aoun is elected president, who will he choose for prime minister? Will he accept Hariri? Can the government function with Aoun and Hariri fighting over every detail? Won’t they shoot each other in something like a remake of Virginia Tech’s tragedy?

Weren't Saniora and Berri compromise figures, technocrats so to speak, less divisive than Hariri and Nasrallah? So why should the Christians have their strongest but also most divisive leader, while Sunnis and Shiites have weaker but more moderate figures at the top?

Aoun can't seem (or does not want) to understand the difference between France and Lebanon. We are not quite yet a fully functioning democratic nation. And we, like Iraq, still need a lot of careful treatment. This is simply to prevent wars.

It seems to me that Michel Aoun is living a fantasy: he is riding a white horse and his soldiers are calling him "Napoleon our master"...

But there are two important points he is missing: Napoleon was extremely intelligent, and he won most of his battles. What battles did Aoun win so far?

No anonymous, I hope you get better soon..you ignornace and the ignorance of people like you is going to cost us our country...Aoun and his short man syndrome think that elections in Lebanon can happen they way they occured in France, although he lived in french exile for 15 yrs he forgot that France is a democratic country with no foreign interference where Lebanon is a helpless country that Iran and Syria and many other countries keep on sticking their noses in our daily political life.
Open ur heart and mind to others with different views, treat them with some respect or SPARE US YOUR OPINION WE CAN'T TAKE ANYMORE LOATHSOMENESS!!

Happy Arab,
The idea that your post is missing is that Aoun is the moderate christian leader and his followers are the moderate christians. He may be uncompromising (and a little unreal) about his demands, but his party represents the point of view of the christian population that wants to live in a united not segregated country. As a matter of fact, the saddest part of the current situation is that the harirists and aounists do not agree, while they are the closest to each other in terms of political and social ideology.
But like you imply, ideology is irrelevant in our mad little country.

obi,

Are you trying to say that Carlos Edde and Dory Chamoun are fanatic Christians?

Or Amine Gemayel and Samir Geagea?

I don't see any of these politicians ever mentioning religion in their speeches.

What do you mean by Aoun represents the moderate Christians? Do you think the people following Geagea go to church more regularly than the people following Aoun? I doubt that very much.

Indeed, as you say, most of the non-Aounist Christian leaders, as well as most of the Sunni leaders are working together within March 14. No fanatism whatosever.

I don't think it is a question of moderate or not moderate Christians. It is a question of moderate or non-moderate political leader. Aoun is not a moderate leader. He is a fascist. He brought all his relatives and friends and made them party leaders. Just check for yourself.

Happy arab: (great alias by the way)

I'm not defending any political party (I just want to be clear on that)

A comment on what you said:
"Do you think the people following Geagea go to church more regularly than the people following Aoun?"

How in the world is going to church related at all with being politically moderate?

have a nice day!

obi,

you said Aoun and his followers are the moderate Christians. In what sense?

Are the followers of Geagea having issues with the Sunnis or Druze?

France 24 report on: 'Arming hysteria in Lebanon'

In the report, you see an LF thug with heavy machines in his room, and when asked what he would use them for", he replies: " for protection" .. the reporter asks him : " protection from whom?" .. " he replies" from others".. reporters asks: " you mean Muslims? .. Shias? Sunnis? ".. the guy replies' yeah, both" ..

this is how civilized Lebanese are , No ?
