If Fath al-Islam Were Al-Qaeda...

... then shouldn't we see terrorist bombs in Shiite areas in Lebanon?

But we don't see that. All terrorist bombs are taking place in Christian areas. Isn't that odd? In Iraq, the main targets of Al-Qaeda are the foreign armies as well as the Shiites. And if Fath al-Islam were really linked to Al-Qaeda the terror bombs would not be limited to Christian areas.

One explanation is the following: Fath al-Islam is actually a Syrian sponsored terrorist organization. Obviously, the secret service of Hezbollah knows that. Hence, a clear directive from Syria to Fath al-Islam is "never target Shiite areas". Otherwise, it will provoke a major issue with Hezbollah.

So Syria has to play carefully: targeting Christian areas is fair game.

Quite simple!

Is it true there are 300 bombs in Beirut and will be activated if the army doesn't back up?

What does Syria gain out of this crisis? Jeopardizing one of its one major allies, the Lebanese Army? Putting Hizbollah on the defensive? It doesn't make sense.

Of course there are side effects to every action we take. Syria knows there will be side effects to its tactics. However, it is hoping the gains significantly offset the side effects.

What gains you might say?
Well, destabilizing Lebanon enough to derail the international tribunal and to force the US/Israel negotiate with Syria. The international tribunal could mean the end of the Assad regime. It's a question of life or death. If you corner a cat...

It's also a question of ego and prestige. Syria left Lebanon in humiliation. There is one thing in the mind of the Syrian leadership at the moment: revenge.

In particular, by destabilizing Lebanon, Syria regains some of the prestige it had lost when it ran away from Lebanon like a dog. Now Syria can feel proud again and loudly say: those who thought Syria is weak, check what we can do. We can set the middle east on fire.

happy arab,

your theory is not feasible, when the jurisdiction blamed SOLELY 'Fatah Al Islam' yesterday for the bombing of Ain Alaq and called for the persecution of Al Abbssi.
14 march camp wasn't commenting much on that . how come ? they're blindly accusing Syria without a single proof! You are too! what's up with that?

I am not sure I understand you.
March 14 believes that Syria and Fath al-Islam are one thing and the same.

In any case, Hezbollah is accusing Israel of killing Mughnieh, without a single proof. And the US accused Ben Laden of 9/11 much before it had a single proof. There is nothing wrong with pointing a finger when you have a strong suspicion.
